The event brings together project teams, industry, academia, policymakers, and the MSE community – with a focus on exchange, innovation, and digital transformation in materials science and engineering.

The current agenda and all key information can be found on the PMD event page.

We look forward to your registration

Registration for the General Assembly is now open.

Participation fee: 175 EUR

Registration and payment are handled via this registration link, which is also available on the PMD event page.

Key Dates

  • June 4Registration opens
  • June 30 – Deadline for submission of abstracts for Project Talks along the value chain
  • October 31 – Deadline to update abstracts
  • November 21 – Deadline for submission of demonstrators and posters
  • November 26–28 – General Assembly MaterialDigital

What to expect

  • Presentations on digitalization in MSE with a focus on the circular economy of materials
  • Use cases with industrial relevance
  • Application examples from ongoing MaterialDigital projects
  • Interactive demonstrator and poster session
  • Introduction and workshops on tools and services provided by the community
  • Networking evenings for informal exchange

November 26, 2025, 1:00–7:30 p.m. – MaterialDigital – Added value for circular economy and industry

  • Welcome by BAM, BMFTR, VDI-TZ and MaterialDigital
  • Presentations on the circular economy of materials
  • Demonstrator and poster session combined with evening event

Target group: Open to participating projects and interested parties from industry, research, and policy interested in digital solutions for the circular economy and materials innovation.

Note for MaterialDigital projects:
We invite all ongoing MaterialDigital projects to present their work on the first evening in the form of posters and demonstrators. We recommend that multiple team members attend. This will allow sufficient opportunity to present developments and learn about the contributions of other projects. Participation by at least three people per project has proven useful – a large turnout is very welcome. Please refer to the Key Dates for poster and demonstrator submission.

November 27, 2025, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Application examples from MaterialDigital projects and PMD solutions

  • Presentations along the value chain
  • Impulse talks from the PMD working areas
  • External keynote, summary, and optional social event

Target group: Open to all those interested in application examples and developments within the initiative, especially MaterialDigital projects, subject matter experts, and community members.

Note for MaterialDigital projects:
We kindly ask all ongoing MaterialDigital projects to submit abstracts for one or more talks. Please assign your abstract to a stage in the value chain. This categorization will help us organize the presentations. Please refer to the Key Dates for abstract submission.

Optional social event:
On November 27, we offer an optional social event (at own expense). If you are interested, please let us know when registering. We are planning a relaxed get-together – details will follow. We would be happy if you joined us!

November 28, 2025, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. – Hands-on workshops on PMD tools and services

On the third day of the General Assembly, we warmly invite you to explore tools such as PMDco 3.0, workflows, and the MaterialDigital DataStore together with experts from the MaterialDigital community.
Please indicate your preferred workshop when registering so we can better plan and accommodate your interests.

Target group: For users of MaterialDigital tools.

Workshop on Semantic Interoperability

This workshop focuses on the PMD Core Ontology (PMDco), a domain-bridging mid-level ontology designed to improve semantic interoperability in materials science and engineering. It serves as a semantic bridge between general top-level ontologies and domain-specific ontologies and supports structured integration of data and metadata as well as process traceability.

We will present the current version 3.0.0-alpha1 of PMDco, which was recently released (GitHub Release v3.0.0-alpha1). Core semantic patterns behind the ontology’s development will be introduced and explained with visual examples. A short introduction to ontology concepts can be provided, though the workshop primarily targets participants with prior experience or responsibilities in partner projects.

The workshop also aims to lower the barrier to contributing to PMDco development – interested participants are warmly invited to get involved.

Workshop on Workflows (Integration of software tools into the PMD workflow ecosystem)

This workshop provides practical guidance on integrating software tools into the MaterialDigital workflow ecosystem. Topics include step-by-step tool integration into a Workflow Management System (WfMS), semantic enrichment of workflows, and implementing end-to-end data management throughout the data lifecycle.

Based on a typical user journey, the workshop covers:

  • Technical integration of a tool into a WfMS, including interfaces and orchestration
  • Semantic integration, particularly linking with ontologies such as PMDco to ensure interoperability and traceability
  • Defining and implementing a data lifecycle from data generation through processing to archiving and reuse

The workshop is aimed at developers, data managers, and project leads who wish to integrate their tools into the PMD ecosystem or extend existing workflows. The goal is to provide participants with a clear starting point for integration and foster exchange on best practices.

Workshop on IT Architecture and the MaterialDigital DataPortal

This workshop is an open exchange between the PMD IT architecture group and projects, focusing on IT infrastructure for efficient and sustainable materials data management. The goal is to coordinate the needs and availability of IT solutions within MaterialDigital.

Experts from the PMD architecture and infrastructure team will present prototype software tools and modules currently in development or use within a PMD satellite – the central component of the decentralized PMD data space infrastructure.

A key focus is the data integration demonstrator, which enables data exchange within the PMD mesh using version 3.0 of the PMD Core Ontology (PMDco). Other focal points include the integration and use of the MaterialDigital DataPortal.

Projects are warmly invited to present their own internal data exchange solutions and discuss how these can be integrated with or interact within the PMD ecosystem.
If you are interested in presenting your solution, please contact us at: info@material-digital.de

Target group: Open to all interested parties
